Yes, And…

After years of working on water-based, single color, woodblock prints on paper, I had succeeded in creating a solid foundation for an art practice, but I was getting bored, so I decided to tweak the rules of my art making game and add new materials and techniques to the mix to see what might happen.

I had already been learning how to marble and became curious about how the rigid linear halftones of my blocks might coexist with the more organic and intuitive aspects of the marbling. I also introduced the use of canvas and oil based inks in this round to explore the feasibility of other possible material approaches.

In addition to this I also dug deeper into the digital side of the process and started to play with making more complicated composites to explore how halftones of different frequencies and angles might enrich the reading of the prints when applied thoughtfully.

These explorations led to some interesting new developments in the work, with themes of alienation and a general tension of feeling caught between worlds coming to the front in new ways.
